Shannon Takes Perth's Beaches to Manhatten

Independent artists Shannon Hamilton and Rob Forlani have been accepted into an international exhibition Out From Down Under and Beyond at the Agora Gallery in New York.

Agora, in Soho, has aquired a reputation for its global contemporary art Annual Down Under exhibition is an opportunity for Australian and New Zealand artists to make their American debut.

Shannon and Rob are the only WA Artists to be represented in this year’s exhibition, featuring 11 Australian and New Zealand artists across a broad range of painting genres.

Shannon, who used to work out of the collective gallery in Leederville now works in a purpose-built studio at the back of her Wembley home. Four of her large, beach-inspired portraits will be sent to New York for the exhibition.

Agora’s Artist Spectrum magazine described Shannon’s work as using “the human form as a means of describing the gorgeous light of a summer afternoon….The refulgence of golden light is unmistakably that of Australian Landscape.”

Rob Forlani, of Victoria Park, will send three of his bold, richly coloured and textured abstract paintings to New York and hopes to make the trip there for the opening on May 12.
